2010 National Champions
For four years, the Project Ignition club at Jacobs High School has been among the top 10 programs in the country.
But the "Best of the Best" award, given to the team that has done the most to promote safe driving, has always eluded the Algonquin club.
Late last month, at the National Youth Leadership Council's annual conference in San Jose, Calif., the Algonquin teens finally got the gold.
Jacobs went home with the top prize and was also named the National Leader for Active Engagement of Youth and Community.
National Youth Leadership Conference
Last week the Jacobs High School Safety Initiative traveled to Nashville, TN for the National Youth Leadership Conference. Among the numerous breakout sessions, forums, and service learning projects, the conference included the 2009 Project Ignition awards.

Video Editing – demonstration on producing videos for educating peers and your community about safety issues. Safety Awareness Demonstrations - including Rollover, Seatbelt Convincer, drunk-driving golf cart course and Drunk Driver goggle demonstrations. Panel Discussions – impact of fatal accidents on teens, parents and their communities. Work Sessions – gather ideas for developing a driving awareness program at your school, including advertising, web site development, Safety Week ideas, Operation Prom, and grant writing.
